Part of the film is told by doctors who, without medicine or medical supplies or proper training for the scale and horror of what they faced, coped with shrapnel wounds, gangrene, tetanus, water supply cut to 20%, only one well, close to Planagist militias who shot and bombed women trying to get water. 10 to 12 children a day dying of thirst. In the last 15 days there was no electricity, medical staff used sheets and curtains for dressings. No aid trucks, Red Cross not allowed to help.

Palestinians were not legally allowed to work in Lebanon but Abu Hussein managed to send his oldest son to school in the United States. His son, who was half-way through a Master’s program in computer engineering) quoted in the film, “The main thing you can depend on as Palestinians, and you can really go forward on the future and build a good future, help your family, your relatives, your friends if you can, is the only-and only-way that you can is education. That’s the only choice. Education is like our own food.” Family 2: Um Ali: Zionists bombed her village in 1948 Palestine. Many killed and injured. The fled with their two month old and their two year old. No food, no water, no extra clothes or money. Fled to Lebanon. Israel bombed her home in Lebanon killing her son and husband. They bombed his hours and he remembers his mother picking school books out of the rubble. “My sons would have finished school this year.”

April,23.2012: 60 Minutes scene (at 11:53 min) between Bob Simon and Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren “There’s a first time for everything, Bob”. The great Journalist Bob Simon confronts Israreli Ambassador Michael Oren on camera for Oren trying to quash Simon’s story on Israel driving Christians out of the Holy Land. Oren, (born Michael Bornstein in New York, who emigrated to Israel, changed his name, and became Israeli Ambassador to the United States) had used his influence to call the Chairman of CBS News and Executive Producer of 60 minutes to complain about what Oren referred to as “a hatchet job”. What’s great about the exchange is Oren was so unused to push back that he fumbled through every question Simon put to him. Clearly Oren had been briefed on what was in the piece that hadn’t aired yet but he couldn’t say that. Driving that point home, at the end of the interview Simon pointed out that the show hadn’t even aired and told Oren he’d been in this business a long time but he’d never ‘gotten a reaction before from a story that hadn’t been broadcast yet”. September 2014 The Wanted 18 by Amer Shmali and Paul Cowan. 75 min.Claymation, animation, interviews with real players in the story the time Israel declared 18 cows a threat to national security. Palestinians were trying to start a small dairy herd to become more independent from Israel. Worried about losing their captive milk buying market, the Jewish state made cows illegal in the occupied territories. Residents hid the cows, moving them place to place as occupation troops searching for the cows during the first intifada moved house to house showing residents mug shots of the cows demanding to know where they were. The film won best documentary from the Arab world 2014, Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Award for Long Film, International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights, etc. Israeli government denied the film maker a visa to go to New York City for the screening because Israel deemed him “a security risk”. (like the cows no doubt).

January 11, 2015 +Extra credit: find footage of Netanyahu elbowing through world leaders as they march in support of France at the Charlie Hebdo rally. The back story: Millions of people, including dozens of world leaders, march in France to show solitarity against Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack. Israeli PM Netanyahu behaved like the boorish cull he is. French President Francois Hollande had pointedly asked Netanyahu and Fatah President Abbas to stay away. Abbas and Netanyahu agreed. At the last moment Netanyahu found out his political rivals Lieberman and Bennett were going to France. So he announces he’s going too. At this an incensed Hollande invites Abbas to come to France and march with the front row of the world leaders. Netanyahu is placed several rows back.Once the march begins, Netanyahu elbows and pushes his way through world leaders so he can be in the front row, too. Viral video of him doing this and waving to the crowds. When it was over, he tries to get on the first bus of dignitaries where he wasn’t invited. The bus driver closed the door in his face and left him standing there nervously exposed on the street surrounded by French people for several minutes waiting for the next bus with his shocked and equally nervous body guards. Later, Hollande attended the Grand Synagogue in Paris until Netanyahu got up to speak. Whereupon in a move that was so very French, Hollande stood and walked out. Bearing out Hollande’s concern, Netanyahu uses the opportunity in the Synagogue to promote himself and Israel.
